Vladimir Tretchikoff, 1913-2006
Vladimir Tretchikoff, renowned self-taught artist living in Cape Town, South Africa, died on the 26th of August 2006. He was most famously known for his work, titled The Green Lady c.1950 (seen above), which was the biggest selling art print of all time. He was known as the King of Kitsch, and worked as a super-realist to create his melodramatic paintings. His works have featured in galleries all around the world and in movies such as Alfie and in an episode of Doctor Who. Probably not as respected as he should have been by the worlds art community, because of his popularity amongst the public, his work is still incredible and as popular as it was in the 20th century.
