Hamba Kahle - Ngiyabonga kakhulu

I am a firm believer that if you do not do something properly, you should not do it at all. I feel I am neglecting SprayGlue because of many reasons, the main being a lack of time to post good material. Unfortunately money talks and I have to walk. I am focusing on my freelance design, my surfing (that I am getting back into, I have to buy a longboard as my short board is just not cutting it), my family and amazing group of friends as well as general people watching and photography. I want to say a big thank you to a few people (please if I leave you out it is not because I don't care it is just because my memory and attention span go hand in hand), Heather Moore, Grace Bonney, Craig Parsons, Jessica Goldfond, JP, Christopher de Beer, Bovril and Banana toast, The Kings of Leon and most of all the guy/girl who invented post-it notes. But a BIG THANK YOU to everyone who took the time to look at SprayGlue and leave an amazing comment. To the people who left krap comments, I hate you a little.

Soia & Kyo Winter 2008

What a great long weekend! And apparently the 2nd of May has also been declared a public holiday here in South Africa. That is fantastic news! The Winter ranges have started popping up in stores and there are some interesting pieces out there. Soia & Kyo is no exception. Their amazing site and great photography make for some easy browsing.

I am very sorry for the lack of posts recently but I needed to unplug myself from my networks to restore and refresh myself so that my design and my blog content does not become redundant and boring. In future posts I will be looking at more niche sub-cultures and design categories to help differentiate SprayGlue as a design blog. So please don't be angry or sad, SprayGlue will be back in more accurate action asap.

Khai Liew is my favourite furniture designer. His collections angular clean lines were inspired by folding paper and angular wood carving. Beautiful and fantastic!

Wicker Park

I was reading blog which was explaining an area in Chicago (Wicker Park) that was similar to Williamsburg in Brooklyn, where I stayed. Williamsburg was just about the best place someone in their mid 20s could hang out it in. So I did a little research and found some photos of Wicker Park.

While browsing through Dieter Rams incredible work that he designed for Braun I came across a couple of great black and white layouts that immediately caught my eye. I love that the photo is the hero, glorifying certain aspects of the product in the shot. Great typography.

The Last Mix Tape

You gotto to love the way these storyboards have been designed. I really love the NFL clash with the universe/galaxy elements. It's like the birth of a star or watching a nebula forming. The Last Mix Tape.

I love the lighting in these photographs by James Day. I think if I was in a band I would like to have the band members shot in this style, it seems very real to me.

Velib Paris

This is such a great idea and although it is not probably the first time it has been used in a city like Paris, I thought it was such a nice design for a bike. Velib is basically a rented bike system that has bike stations located all over Paris for pick-up and drop-off...Cape Town maybe could use this?

The Velvet Hammer Burlesque

The Velvet Hammer Burlesque is the world famous burlesque troupe based in Los Angeles that has started the era of Neo-Burlesque, reviving the genre of the American tradition, elevating the classical performance. This book reminds me of the burlesque show I went to in NY, it was so funny and very entertaining. I think the tease has been brought back into to the striptease and burlesque shows are only going to grow in popularity.

Lladro

I fell in love with these porcelain designs from Lladro. The Re-Deco range was created under the artistic direction of Jamie Hayon. These pieces are beautiful and there are so many to browse through. This is why it gets the SprayGlue Pick of the Week award for amazingly fantastical excellence.

Brasilia Architecture

"Brasilia was built to be Brazil's new capital city. The idea was to transfer the federal capital of Brazil from the coast to the midwestern interior of the country. Brazil had two capital cities before that: Rio de Janeiro and Salvador da Bahia. By transferring the capital city to the interior, the government intended to help populate that area of the country. People from all over the country were hired to build the city, especially those from the Northeast region of Brazil. Brasilia is known, internationally, for having applied the principles established in the Athens Charter of 1933." - Wikipedia. I have to go there one day!
