Shirley Fintz

A Zimbabwean by birth, Shirley Fintz is a versatile artist, who boasts an ever growing creative output. Shirley has a degree in Fine Arts and did her thesis on food, photographing hundreds of branded products. Once this was done she started to make replicas of food as it was served, working mainly in Barbara Jacksons pottery studio. She found her niche when she started sculpting animals - on wheels, on top of each other and her latest buddha series. She has exhibited all over the world and in 200 founded monkey biz bead project with Barbara Jackson. What I like about her work is her use of Shwe Shwe print on the animals, a nice example of this is the giraffe (thanks Ann) featured on the left.

Gary, great post.

I am a huge fan of the Monkey Biz beading project and was pleased to read some more about one of the founders. These item by Shirley Fitz thogh are wonderful. Although that is SOOoo a giraffe on the left and not a buck :-)

I loved the shwe shwe animals as this has become a passon of mine of late

Im a Shwe Shwe nut myself, I particularly love the way Shwe Shwe print is being incorporated into modern South African icons, like Evita Bezuidenhout, Madiba and Proteas...Thanks for the correction, I am embarrassed to admit that it is definately a giraffe...

Thanks for the comment...
