Tom Otterness

While moving around NY I have been making good use of the subway. I particularly like the orange seats and wood panelling of the F and V trains, it's kinda retro and fun. Another feature of the subways for me have been the great little sculptures by Tom Otterness. His little characters add a great sense of humour to a very industrial functional space.

I love how unexpected these sculptures are- every time I saw one I was surprised. That's quite an accomplishment in NYC.

That's something desparately needed in philly subways. Not only are they horrid, but one of the largest stations is on the avenue of the arts. Call me cookey but seems the perfect space for artist to make purty.

Ah well at least if they do not come to their senses here I'll have the NY stations to visit:)
