This FM radio, the Tune 'N Radio, from Dutch design studio Wouter Geense have created a radio that people create into an individual works of art. An antenna has to be chosen by the user and the same goes with the sound and tuning buttons. People can also decorate the radio with any artwork they choose, bonding with the radio on a personal level. Navigation through stations is made easy by the extra large screen and it runs off a rechargeable battery for portability. The casing is aluminium for strength and for that sleek exterior American diner look. Yeah I'm a sucker for radios, I don't know why but I absolutely love them. From the little kitchen ones to the shouldered Ghetto blasters. They are like little boxes of personality that become friends that just keep broadcasting. Portable, selective and an off switch. Great invention! Oh, almost forgot this one is from the MoMA Store and retails for the price of 1 MILLION DOLLARS,...sorry couldn't resist,...its only R350.
I have always had a soft spot for old kitchen scales similar to what GG(my great gran, she was the first HAM radio operator in South Africa.) used to use. With the big red needle and the enamel paint that overtime and from use creeps away from the edges of black. I saw this great scale above from a small german company Mayerundthiele, with the goal of making cooking easier and more beautiful. I agree with this principle and think these scales from designers Ingo Thiele and Hannes Mayer are great! Their company has blacklisted using electronic devices and hi-tech gadgets in favour of modern mixed together with a dash of traditional.
Target and the American Red Cross brought their heads together to create a First Aid kit that is not only functional but pretty too. It is called The First Aid Emergency Preparedness Starter Kit, it's quite a mouthful as well as an eyeful. It is designed for 4 people, and comes with essential items like ponchos, blanket, torch, radio and batteries. But maybe what is of more significance is the fact that for every kit bought, $10 is donated to the Red Cross. Simple, functional and has meaning, just the way I like it.
